A question from a parent...
Looking for dining point advice.
Anyone with a sophomore or older student have suggestions on which dining plan to choose for an incoming freshman girl...small...doesn't eat that much, generally. And, is there any savings in using dining points, as opposed to passpoints for meals. We're thinking we'll get the minimum $600 meal plan 1st semester, use passpoints if we run out, then get a higher dining plan 2nd semester if it seems we need it. Good plan...or bad????
Thanks in advance...
Susette

More info on dining plans
I have a daughter at UW-GB who was a freshman last year and she is a very picky eater. We got the minimum plan both semesters and she had trouble using all the money up before the end of the year. You can add money at any point if she needs it. She can use dining points at the Corner Store to buy grocery items. That was the only way our daughter used up her dining points. She cooked in the kitchen in her dorm and used her microwave alot. Her roommate ate at the dining hall more than she did and I don't think her money ran out either. We have been through two daughters' freshmen years and lost money on Dining plans with both!!
I just graduated from UWGB and I lived in the res halls my freshman and sophomore years so I bought a meal plan for both of those years. I decided to go with the smallest dollar amount for the meal plan. I'm a pretty small girl so I figured the smallest plan would work best for me, and it did. I would suggest having the smallest meal plan to start off with because if you daughter does use up all of her dining plan money you can always add more... you can't EVER subtract money so go with the lowest plan and add more if needed. --Kathy
